Adult Officer Advancement Criteria


APPOINTMENT TO OFFICER RANKS:

NSCC Officer Corps Rank Structure. NSCC adult ranks parallel those of the Navy and Coast Guard; however Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) is the highest attainable rank. NSCC officer ranks are as follows:

a. Instructor (INST)

b. Midshipman (MIDN)

c. Warrant Officer (WO)

d. Ensign (ENS)

e. Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG)

f. Lieutenant (LT)

g. Lieutenant Commander (LCDR)

h. Auxiliarist

 

Midshipman (MIDN).

A former cadet or other qualified individual who meets the enrollment criteria and has completed the Officer Midshipman Study Guide (OMSG)

 

Warrant Officer (WO).

WO2 WO2s

An Instructor who is an active duty, retired, or reserve member of the armed forces, who meets the enrollment criteria, may be recommended for appointment to Warrant Officer. The following requirements must be met:

1) Complete the Officer Midshipman Study Guide (OMSG) and recorded in the adult Magellan Record Book.

2) Serve as an Escort Officer while an INST and recorded in the adult Magellan Record Book.

3) Complete OPD 101 and recorded in the adult Magellan Record Book.

4) Serve a minimum 1 year as an INST.

5) Serve a minimum 1 year in the NSCC.

 

Ensign (ENS).

ENS ENSs

An Instructor may be recommended for appointment to Ensign (O1) when the following requirements are met:

1) Complete the Officer Midshipman Study Guide (OMSG) and recorded in the adult Magellan Record Book.

2) Serve as an Escort Officer while an INST or MIDN and recorded in the adult Magellan Record Book.

3) Complete OPD 101 and recorded in the adult Magellan Record Book.

4) Serve a minimum 1 year as an INST.

5) Serve a minimum 1 year in the NSCC.

 

Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG).

LTJG LTJG S

An Ensign may be recommended for appointment to Lieutenant Junior Grade (O2) when the following requirements are met:

1) Serve as an Escort Officer while an ENS and recorded in the adult Magellan Record Book.

2) Complete OPD 201 and recorded in the adult Magellan Record Book.

3) Serve a minimum 2 years as an ENS.

4) Serve a minimum 3 years in the NSCC.

 

Lieutenant (LT).

LT LT S

A Lieutenant Junior Grade may be recommended for appointment to Lieutenant (O3) when the following requirements are met:

1) Serve as an Escort Officer while a LTJG and recorded in the adult Magellan Record Book.

2) Complete OPD 301 and recorded in the adult Magellan Record Book.

3) Serve a minimum 3 years as a LTJG.

4) Serve a minimum 6 years in the NSCC.

 

Lieutenant Commander (LCDR).

LCDR LCDR S

A Lieutenant may be recommended for appointment to Lieutenant Commander (O4) when the following requirements are met:

1) Serve as an Escort Officer while a LT and recorded in the adult Magellan Record Book.

2) Complete Escort Officer Duty in a leadership position at either NSCC Recruit Training or NLCC Orientation. If this duty was used to satisfy the training requirement for advancement to a previous grade, Escort Officer Duty at another approved training will be required and recorded in the adult Magellan Record Book.

3) Serve a minimum 4 years in grade as a LT.

4) Serve a minimum 10 years in the NSCC.
