About Us

The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a nationwide organization dedicated to helping motivated youth realize personal success and achievement through a leadership development program. Through Sea Cadet leadership, boys and girls ages 10 through 14 (Navy League Cadets) and ages 14 through 17 (Sea Cadets) develop interest and skill in military discipline, basic seamanship and its naval adaptations, while learning the value of patriotism, courage, self reliance, teamwork and accountability.

Ben Moreell Battalion and Training Ship Nicholas H. Anderson are sponsored by the Ventura County Council of the Navy League of the United States, a nonprofit organization of U.S. citizens deeply committed to the welfare of young Americans. With this sponsorship, Ben Moreell Battalion and Training Ship Nicholas H. Anderson are able to offer low annual dues and low cost summer trainings to our cadets. Sea Cadets train aboard U.S. Navy and Coast Guard ships and shore activities, and are authorized by the Secretary of the Navy to wear Navy uniforms marked with Naval Sea Cadet insignia. Over 300 Sea Cadet units exist in nearly every state as well as Puerto Rico and Guam, with some 9,500 members. Locally we participate in parades, color guard events, marksmanship training, damage control, first aid, and other activities. We also work on community service activities.

Membership in the Sea Cadets allows cadets to sample military life with no obligation to join any branch of the armed forces. Should cadets decide to enlist in the Navy or Coast Guard, their training may allow them entry at an advance paygrade. The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps affords equal opportunity for participation to all young Americans regardless of race, color, religion or sex.

This program is for motivated and dedicated individuals. Cadets are required to make progress through the training and development curriculum in order to remain in the program. As they advance in rank, they will take on additional duties that will help them develop leadership skills. For those who want to learn the core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment and about Navy life, this is an excellent program. The training opportunities for Sea Cadets are tremendous!

Request a color guard team

Ben Moreell Battalion and T.S. Nicholas H. Anderson provide Color Guard support to military ceremonies and public events. While we strive to fulfill every request, conflicts with school days and other personal commitments may prevent us from participating in every request.

Volunteers are Essential

We are always looking for adult volunteers!
A volunteer must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident, free of felony convictions, possess good moral character, a sound mind, and be capable of credibly communicating USNSCC values to our cadets. Each adult will undergo a background investigation during the enrollment process with the Sea Cadets. No prior military experience is necessary, though it is very much valued. Adult volunteers must have a willingness to develop leadership skills and assist the cadet leadership team.

Use the Learn More button to ask a member of the unit questions you may have, or navigate to the "How to Enroll" tab at the top of the page for more information.
